Witch Hunt The Salem Witch Hunt was a notorious outcry against people assumed to be witches in 1692. Written documentation from the time of the trials has been researched, finding twenty executed and over one hundred imprisoned. Furthermore this documentary shows the people involved and outcomes of many. Witchcraft has a long history in the roots of folk magic of having protecting and destroying affairs. According to the documentary Folk Magic claims the devil would use women, children and occasionally men to do his biddings. In Europe over 50,000 people had been burned or hanged by religious witch hunts, possibly witnessed by some of the villagers of Salem. Salem Village was founded in Massachusetts, approximately twenty miles North of Boston. Established by the Puritans, Salem was supposed to be a sanctuary for those who were fleeing the grips of Catholicism in England. The Puritans were devout Christian people who along with religion had brought with them folk lore from Europe. The Puritans were a highly religious group that had settled in Salem village with a non-ordained minister named George Burroughs. After he was released from his duties a new Minister named Samuel Parris was appointed, causing conflict and unhappiness amongst the villagers over his salary.
